The pH value is one of the key values of an aquarium or pond. The pH value indicates whether the water is acidic or alkaline.  Most fish and the nitrifying bacteria prefer alkaline water. But the biological processes in the aquarium water cause the pH value to drop over time. Because all inhabitants in aquariums and ponds are very sensitive to changes in the pH value, regular monitoring is needed.
